BEFORE I SPEAK, HE KNOWS*
He said, “Praise God’s name from everlasting to everlasting because he is wise and powerful. He changes times and periods of history. He removes kings and establishes them. He gives wisdom to those who are wise and knowledge to those who have insight. He reveals deeply hidden things. He knows what is in the dark, and light lives with him.
My morning prayer is, “Speak, LORD, I am listening!” This morning I went out to capture a sunrise photo. After posting the picture on Facebook, I sat on the patio and read through seemingly random scriptures.
Then comes the hard part. I sit quietly and listen. At first all u hear us the rush of traffic on the interstates 35 & 80.
So many people in a hurry to be where they are not, while I am passively trying to be where I am. It can be difficult to just be in the present, to be here and now. The mind wants to revisit the past or rush to the future.
“Peace, be still,” comes the voice that calmed the waters.*** Then at last, I am ready to hear.
Do you take time to listen for the voice of God?
*Psalms 139:4 “Even before there is a single word on my tongue, you know all about it, LORD.”
**1 Samuel 3:9 “Go, lie down,” Eli told Samuel. “When he calls you, say, ‘Speak, LORD. I’m listening.'”
