Matthew 15:1-9
Then some Pharisees and scribes came from Jerusalem to Jesus. They asked, “Why do your disciples break the traditions of our ancestors? They do not wash their hands before they eat.”

He answered them, “Why do you break the commandment of God because of your traditions? For example, God said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’ and ‘Whoever curses father or mother must be put to death.’ But you say that whoever tells his father or mother, ‘I have given to God whatever support you might have received from me,’ does not have to honor his father. Because of your traditions you have destroyed the authority of God’s word. You hypocrites!

Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: ‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. Their worship of me is pointless, because their teachings are rules made by humans.'”

Approximately 1/3 of the earth’s 7 billion people claim to be Christians. However, day after day I see people who claim to be Christians behaving very unChristlike. I see Christians who have never shared their faith with anyone even though Christ COMMANDED* them to do so. Never forget that we are saved to serve.

Yes, even today, far too many people “pay lip service” to God while their hearts are not in it. Is it any wonder that many of the unsaved look at professing Christians and cry “You hypocrites!” Jesus must be nodding his head in agreement.

I will close with what Paul had to say, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are still in the Christian faith. Test yourselves! Don’t you recognize that you are people in whom Jesus Christ lives? Could it be that you’re failing the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5)
