Which Reward Will You Receive?

Matthew 6:1-4

“Be careful not to do your good works in public in order to attract attention. If you do, your Father in heaven will not reward you. So when you give to the poor, don’t announce it with trumpet fanfare. This is what hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets in order to be praised by people. I can guarantee this truth: That will be their only reward. When you give to the poor, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your contributions privately. Your Father sees what you do in private. He will reward you.”

Which Reward Will You Receive?

Good deeds do good, no matter what your motivation for doing them. If you give your tithes and donations to charities only for a tax write off, you will receive only that reward.

However, if you make those donations to honestly: feed the hungry, provide drink to the thirsty, welcome a stranger, donate clothing to those in need, provide healthcare to the sick, and establish godly relationships with those imprisoned physically, emotionally, financially, or socially; then you will be rewarded by God. And, coincidentally, you may also receive earthly rewards.

The key is to do everything as though you were doing it for God.

Proverbs 14:31

Whoever oppresses the poor insults his maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors him.

Lord be with me in a special way today. Allow me to see YOU in the faces of those of those around me. Give me the gift of discernment that I may see their need as YOU see it. Empower me to meet those needs to YOUR glory, not mine. Amen.
