Matthew 10:24-28

A student is not better than his teacher. Nor is a slave better than his owner. It is enough for a student to become like his teacher and a slave like his owner. If they have called the owner of the house Beelzebul, they will certainly call the family members the same name. So don’t be afraid of them. Nothing has been covered that will not be exposed. Whatever is secret will be made known. Tell in the daylight what I say to you in the dark. Shout from the housetops what you hear whispered. Don’t be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who can destroy both body and soul in hell.

Shout it from the rooftops! In the previous verses, Jesus had been telling the disciples that they were going to be trouble they were going to be persecuted they were going to be beaten and jailed and executed. And now he basically says you’re no better than I am and that is all going to happen to me.

Then he tells them all of the things that I’ve been teaching you all these years I want you to shout it from the rooftops don’t keep anything hidden any longer.

In this country and in this day and age we do not suffer that severe of persecution. We may be scoffed at we may be ridiculed for believing this superstitious nonsense, however we are not beaten and jailed and executed for our beliefs. So why are we not shouting it from the rooftops? I’m asking myself this. I’m also asking you this. What is keeping us from shouting the good news that Jesus has set us free from the bondage of sin?

Lord, Master, Savior, Redeemer, forgive us for being too timid to speak your holy word to those who are lost in this world. Fill us with the Holy Spirit and Empower us and give us the courage to open our mouths and say your words. Amen.
