And if you are Christ’s, then are you the offspring of Abraham, heirs according to the promise. But I say that, during the time an heir is a child, he is no different from a servant, even though he is the owner of everything. For he is under tutors and caretakers, until the time which was predetermined by the father. So also we, when we were children, were subservient to the influences of the world. But when the fullness of time arrived, God sent his Son, formed from a woman, formed under the law, so that he might redeem those who were under the law, in order that we might receive the adoption of sons.”
Paul is saying to us who are not descendents of Abraham in the natural, that by accepting Jesus, he has made us to be adopted into the family of Abraham.
Moreover, he claims that all of Abraham children have been as minors under the guardianship of the Law. And under that law we have no more control over ourselves and our property than a person sold into slavery. However, Jesus, as our brother, has redeemed us from that slavery.
Now thparpresupposes that we are no longer children. We have become adults. We need to behave as spiritual adults. It is time to stop feeding on the milk of the scripture, the simple stories learned in Sunday school. It is time to get into the meat of the word. A good place c to begin is the gosples. Read each one while praying for understanding. Keep asking, “What is the passage saying to ME?” A good bible commentary is helpful.
It’s time to wipe the milk from your chin and pick up a knife and fork.
