When my son was quite young he would come to me and start talking. Often I was engaged in some activity and only partially listening to him. One such day he realized that he didn’t have my full attention. Placing his hands on either side of my face, he said, “Stay your head to me!”
Sometimes. I have the feeling that God is also saying, “Stay your head to me!” Sometimes I begin to glimpse a pattern that may go like this: I have a idea that there is something I should do. Usually it is something unfamiliar or simply something I don’t want to do. During a casual conversation someone else brings up that subject. I’ll be reading something that is discussing that topic. That’s when I begin to get the idea that God is speaking to me. I never want to be as contrary as Jonah. You remember the guy swallowed by a fish because he didn’t listen?
Jonah 1:1-2. 1. And the word of the Lord came to Jonah the son of Amittai, saying: 2. Rise and go to Nineveh, the great city, and preach in it. For its malice has ascended before my eyes.
(2:1-2) 1. And the Lord prepared a great fish to swallow Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights. 2. And Jonah prayed to the Lord, his God, from the belly of the fish.
(3:1-2) 1. And the word of the Lord came to Jonah a second time, saying: 2. Rise, and go to Nineveh, the great city. And preach in it the preaching that I say to you.

Prayer
Lord, I don’t want to ignore you as did Jonah. Nor do I wish to misunderstand as did Samuel the first the times you called to him. Tune me to your will , O Lord.
Amen.
